Final talk about what kind of web hosting should i choose. After talk about space, data transfers, and server resource, you must have some idea to find a suitable web hosting for your website. It’s the end of our entire discussion, huahahahaha… LOL.

After talking about space and data transfer before, it seems like not enough if we’re not talking about server resource for website. It is getting hard for discussion isn’t it? Haha… just kidding, don’t take it seriously, it is just an amateur discussion.

If you have just a light static website and maybe a hundred until five hundred visitors per day, shared web hosting is enough for you because it won’t take much memory and cpu resource. Otherwise if you’re running a dynamic website with a thousand visitors per day or using some software / script that will take much cpu and memory resource (usually restricted in shared hosting TOS), you have to move your website to the next level of web hosting, something like virtual private servers or virtual dedicated servers which allow you to use more resource of memory and cpu. In another case there are websites like forum or community that have an out of mind traffic and visitors per day, maybe they have more than fifty thousands visitors per day. If you have somekind of website, i suggest you to move to dedicated server.

File hosting site. Yes of course please use dedicated server or virtual private server that have minimum specifications like one dedicated server. Don’t be kidding with using just shared hosting or a usual virtual private server for file hosting site.

In the previous post i was giving some illustration for space usage in web hosting. Now i want to continue with data transfer’s usage for your website requirement. Basically for website which just contains scripts, it won’t take much data transfer per month, for example you have 100Kb size of your script in total and a hundred visitors per day in average, so you will use about 300Mb of data transfer per month.

100Kb x 100 visitors x 30 days = 300Mb

That is basic calculation to predict your data transfer’s usage per month, you can predict more specific calculation for it. For example you have 4 page in your website where every page’s size is 30Kb. You have a hundred visitors per day and they are reading 2 of your page in average. This is the calculation.

30Kb x 2 pages x 100 visitors x 30 days = 180Mb

So you’re just use 180Mb of data transfer per month, not so much of data transfer you need for your website right? From those two examples, you can predict more according to your website conditions. Maybe your website’s pages contains images or attachments or videos (hosted in your web hosting) and your visitor is more than a hundred per day with more than 2 page loads in average. You can check your website’s statistic with some tools in your panel for more specific data.

If you are having some video streaming website or file hosting site, of course you need lot of data transfer per month than just an ordinary website. Especially if peoples often access your website to download or watch some video, just prepare to pay out more for your data transfer.

In this time i will discuss about requirement space for website.

A website is created from web application scripts like php, html, javascript, asp, css, and many more. A website that contains only web application scripts don’t take much space of web hosting. I predict it is not more than a hundred megabytes of space. Otherwise if you want to put some images or attachments in your website, you will need more space to host it, of course you can predict depending on your files size to be hosted in your website.

In another case we also often see some website which being a file hosting or file sharing site. If you are intend to make a website like this, you will need a huge storage space for your web hosting, especially if your website is a public file hosting or file sharing site. More peoples uploading files to your website, more files saved in your web hosting, more space will be used. Those are some illustrations of space requirement for your website.

Nowadays, webhosting is not just use for hosting scripts and files, it also hosting databases and emails who required some space too. Databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MsSQL for example is use for dynamic website and save the website content. Also if you are using some email application in your webhosting, that will take your space too.
